30 years of the ‘Produit du terroir – Lëtzebuerger Rëndfleesch’ label

2024 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the ‘Produit du terroir – Lëtzebuerger Rëndfleesch’ (Luxembourg beef) label. Social initiatives and festivities are being organised to mark the occasion.

Six months of action and festivities

The festivities kicked off at the Ettelbruck Agricultural Fair in July, with two major events designed to bring together and unite the players in the beef industry and secure new outcomes for them.

– The Chamber of Agriculture and La Provençale worked together to offer a new sausage, ‘Produit du terroir 100% pur bœuf luxembourgeois’, which was marketed exclusively during the fair. The Chamber of Agriculture intends to continue the joint initiative with a new special LUGA recipe in 2025.

– The Chamber of Agriculture also worked with our magazine KACHEN and twelve of Luxembourg’s top chefs. Our graphics team produced a recipe booklet celebrating local beef. Several thousand copies of this booklet were initially distributed at the Ettelbruck Agricultural Fair and will soon be available in most butchers who have signed up to the label.

Finally, to mark this thirtieth anniversary, the Chamber of Agriculture has decided to review the label’s information and promotional tools, with in that context the launch of a new logo.

Mutual aid and solidarity, values dear to the agricultural sector

The Luxembourg Chamber of Agriculture wanted to add a social dimension to the 30th anniversary of the label by donating 1,500 pure Luxembourg beef sausages to the ‘Stëmm vun der Strooss’ association (which works for the social and professional integration of disadvantaged people).

The staff at the Chamber of Agriculture put forward this idea, which I and the Committee immediately supported. Farming is a difficult profession that depends on solidarity. Helping each other is in our genes,’ says Christian Hahn, President of the Luxembourg Chamber of Agriculture.

Reasons to buy Luxembourg beef

– Buying Luxembourg beef means supporting local farming that respects the environment and animal welfare. The products of Luxembourg livestock farming do not have to travel thousands of kilometres to reach our plates

– Buying Luxembourg beef helps to maintain the country’s livestock population, which provides invaluable ecological services: cattle maintain the natural grasslands, which are true reservoirs of biodiversity and natural carbon stocks.

– Buying Luxembourg beef means safeguarding the know-how of the 950 breeders and 63 butchers who have signed up, ensuring their existence and giving them the means to produce quality meat.
