Every summer, the Luxembourg City Tourist Office opens the doors of the Grand Ducal Palace to locals and tourists eager to peek behind the walls of the country’s most iconic building. Photo report.
From July 17 to September 1, the Luxembourg City Tourist Office regularly organizes tours of the Palais-Grand-Ducal in German, French, English, and Luxembourgish. On Thursday, July 18, we had the special pleasure of experiencing not just the usual tour but also an exclusive look into the normally inaccessible living quarters. Naturally, we had our camera with us to capture some of our impressions for you.
Familiar Sight: While the palace’s exterior is well-known, it holds small details often overlooked””like the head of Grand Duke Adolphe, visible from Fëschmaart.
Precious Treasures: The antique tapestries, once part of the Louvre’s collection, are said to have been personally gifted to the Grand Ducal family by Napoleon, according to legend.
La Grande Dame: Grand Duchess Charlotte is undoubtedly the most prominent figure of the Nassau-Weilburg dynasty. Even in portrait form, she floods the whole room with her aura.
A Touch of History: From the tragic figure of Grand Duchess Marie-Adélaïde to the current reigning Grand Duke Henri, all significant personalities of the dynasty are represented in the palace.
Exclusive: The sleeping quarters in the living area have never been part of the tours until now.
