To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the death of the iconic French comedian, the “Festival de Funès” is taking place this weekend in Pétange.
Visitors will be able to enjoy film screenings, exhibitions, live entertainment and music based on the iconic films of this French national hero. As a special extra, famous dishes from the films will be served. A feast for the senses!
La Maison de la Culture “A Rousen” dedicated to “Fufu”
On Saturday 29 July, the “Festival Louis de Funès” will take place in Pétange. The festival will be held in honour of the 40th anniversary of the death of the French iconic comedian at the Maison de la Culture “A Rousen”. From 11:00 to 22:00, the entire building will become a festival site.
On the ground floor in the projector room, three films of the cult actor will be shown during the day. On the first floor, there will be an exhibition on the actor’s biography and filmography. Fittingly for the actor’s most famous role as Gendarme Cruchot, there is an exhibition of historical gendarmerie uniforms on the upper floor.
A culinary tribute
Of course, we at KACHEN are particularly interested in the culinary delights of the festival. The Syndicat d’Initiative of Pétange has come up with something very special: serving dishes in a Peugeot “camionette” converted into a food truck that all of us should be familiar with from de Funès’ famous film scenes.
The ambitious amateur chef and ZDF Kitchen Battle contestant Guy Kohnen will prepare the “Soufflet de Pommes de Terre”, a well-known recipe from the 1966 film “Le Grand Restaurant” – needless to say, not without a pinch of nutmeg, Mr Müller!
Long-time local councillor and former chairman of the Syndicat d’Initiative, Roland Breyer, will be cooking the famous “Soupe au choux” from the 1981 film of the same name.
Party legend and entertainer “Käpt’n Ändä” serves a “Choucroute Garni”, inspired by the 1976 flick “L’Aile ou la Cuisse”. But don’t worry, unlike the film, no one will have a loaded shotgun held to their head while they eat!
All the dishes will be served in small portions, so guests will have the chance to try all three.
Entertainment featuring international guests
In addition, a stage with a varied music and entertainment programme will be set up in the garden of the Maison de la Culture. There will even be some international guests on site who are familiar to the Funès fan scene.
Indeed, the well-known de Funès impersonator Christian Deroo will travel from Nice to provide entertainment in the roles of Ludovic Cruchot and Rabi Jacob. Among other things, he will perform the “Dance du Rabi Jacob” with other guests.
The Brussels group “Cruchotken Pis”, who a few years ago campaigned to have the Brussels landmark of the Manneken Pis dressed in the uniform of the gendarmes of St. Tropez, will be costumed as characters from the films to entertain visitors.
It promises to be an entertaining day. A must for all de Funès fans and those who want to be!
