For the first time, the heart of Luxembourg will echo with the event From Wine to Soul – a celebration that goes beyond merely tasting and savouring wine to embrace the culture, poetry, and soul of Portugal, as explained by Frederico Falcão, President of Wines of Portugal. For Falcão, “wine is a tonic for the soul”, and From Wine to Soul symbolises the deep connection between tradition, art, and emotion that only Portuguese wines can convey.
The Richness of Portuguese Wines: Diversity and Tradition in Every Sip
Portugal brings together, like a mosaic, the diversity of its wine regions, from the coast to the inland terroirs, where more than 250 grape varieties give rise to unparalleled diversity within the European Union. “In Portugal, in just one hour, the sun changes, the food changes, the wines change,” Falcão explains, highlighting the richness and complexity that make every wine a unique experience. This diversity allows each consumer to discover a world of distinct flavours, turning it into an irresistible invitation to continual exploration.
A Sensory Experience: Wine, Gastronomy, and Music in Harmony
The event combines wine, gastronomy, and live music, enhancing the sensory and cultural experience that Portuguese wine offers. At a time when Luxembourg stands out for its per capita wine consumption and passion for gastronomy, Falcão sees in this market a unique opportunity to broaden appreciation for Portuguese wines. Portuguese wine consumption already accounts for 4.8% of the Luxembourg market, placing Portugal in third position in sales. However, the potential is far from exhausted, particularly in the restaurant sector, where the presence of guest sommeliers may help strengthen recognition of Portuguese wines.
Sustainability and Culture: The Future of Portuguese Winemaking
Tradition and sustainability go hand in hand in Portuguese wine production. “Over the past 30 years, there has been significant technical progress without losing tradition,” Falcão states, highlighting practices that revisit ancestral methods, such as the use of amphorae, while incorporating modern and responsible approaches. Producer certification represents a growing commitment to environmental, social, and economic respect, aiming to preserve the land for future generations.
As the event draws to a close, Falcão hopes that visitors will “leave with full hearts, greater knowledge, and a desire to discover Portuguese wines – and perhaps even to visit Portugal.” With 21 producers represented, From Wine to Soul offers a journey through Portugal’s diverse wine regions, from north to south, where everyone can find their preferred style. “Each person must discover for themselves which they like best,” concludes the president, inviting all to embark on this endless voyage of discovery.
Above all, this event is an invitation to dive into the richness of Portuguese wine, to feel its soul and, through it, experience the culture, gastronomy, and human warmth that define Portugal.
