As already announced a few weeks back (read our article here), and after some renovations, Carole Lesquer’s pastry counter, called Alegria, opened its doors on Saturday, November 23, in the city center, on Rue des Capucins.
A Two-Phase Opening
As soon as they walk through the door, customers are greeted with a clear message: “Here, happiness is homemade” is painted in white on the terracotta-colored wall.
So, what exactly is this Alegria-made happiness all about?
On the menu at Alegria, you’ll find pastries made by the pastry chef, such as the classic croissant, as well as a walnut swirl, and also bergamot madeleines”””I’m taking full advantage of the season since it’s short!” Carole tells us. In addition, you’ll find double chocolate cookies, flan tart, or a chocolate cake. For individual pastries, customers can enjoy, for now, a lemon meringue tart or a pavlova with apple and kiwi. Suggestions change throughout the seasons.
The former head chef at Flûte alors! also offers savory options, including vegetable sandwiches and soups. We tried the mushroom club sandwich, and it was delicious. “The majority of our products is from Luxembourg,” Carole proudly points out. “The vegetables come from the Muller-Lemmer farm in Contern, the mushrooms are from Aurel&Axel (young producers who won the bid to open an urban farm in Kirchberg””read more about them in our upcoming magazine, on sale December 4), and the eggs, flour, and butter are also local.”
For now, only the lower level is operational for takeaway orders. There’s also a counter that can seat 4-5 people for a coffee and pastry break.
You’ll have to wait until early December to enjoy the upstairs seating area, where you can watch the chef at work thanks to the open kitchen and plated presentations.
