Charly’s Gare Reborn: Groupe Aura’s Fresh Vision for a Luxembourg Icon

For more than two decades, Charly’s Gare has been a cherished fixture in Senningerberg – a place where locals and visitors alike have gathered to enjoy its unique ambience and hearty cuisine. Since reopening on 19 August under the stewardship of Groupe Aura, known for its distinguished establishments such as Osteria, Brasserie O, and Vasano, this beloved restaurant has stepped boldly into a new chapter while honouring its illustrious past.

With Anabela, already the manager and guardian of the soul of the place, and chef Gabriele leading the kitchen, Charly’s Gare invites its guests to discover a renewed experience that respects tradition while embracing culinary innovation.

Preserving Legacy, Redefining Culinary Identity

Taking over a restaurant with such a legacy is both a challenge and a source of pride for Groupe Aura. Anabela notes that the name itself arouses curiosity and expectations, creating an exciting opportunity to blend familiar favourites with inventive new dishes.

The menu has been thoughtfully revised to stand out in a crowded market, offering a refined brasserie selection that changes with the seasons to ensure freshness and creativity. While many dishes pay homage to the restaurant’s history – most notably the signature escalope Charly’s and the much-loved pizzas – there is a decisive emphasis on quality and seasonal ingredients that elevate the dining experience. Luxembourgish classics such as Wäinzossis and Bouchée à la Reine have been introduced, alongside a diverse fusion of flavours from Portuguese, Italian, French, Luxembourgish, and Asian cuisines, reflecting the multicultural crossroads the location represents.

Atmosphere Reawakened: The Art of Design

The transformation extends beyond the plate. Groupe Aura has undertaken a complete redesign of Charly’s Gare’s interior, bringing back the essence of the original station that anchored this locale. Exposed brickwork, authentic historical photographs, and original posters – sourced in collaboration with Imprimeries Klopp and inspired by the heritage-rich Charly book – imbue the space with personality and nostalgia.

The hotel component, complementing the restaurant, benefits from an inviting atmosphere that appeals to both regular visitors and travellers, aided by the restaurant’s proximity to Luxembourg’s Findel Airport. The various dining areas, including a private rear room available for private hire adorned with striking “Charly” wallpaper, offer ambience and versatility. Notably, the nearby cycle circuit brings summer cyclists and hikers who pause for refreshments, reinforcing Charly’s Gare’s role as a gathering point for the active community.

A Growing Aura: Castello Borghese’s Upcoming Renaissance

Just a few steps from Charly’s Gare, another iconic establishment, Castello Borghese, is poised for rebirth under Groupe Aura’s guidance. Currently undergoing renovations, Castello Borghese will emerge as an Italian-inspired boutique hotel and restaurant distinguished by a playful yet sophisticated décor. Golden rococo columns, golden frames and an eclectic mix of classical and contemporary Roman imagery blend humour and elegance, creating a unique atmosphere where Michelangelo might enjoy pasta and Julius Caesar might sport modern accessories.

The culinary concept will offer refined Italian cuisine and authentic Italian recipes, in addition to the great classics such as homemade fresh pasta and pizzas. Set for a grand reopening in late October or early November, Castello Borghese will broaden Aura’s footprint in the city, providing distinct yet complementary experiences for patrons seeking authentic luxury with a creative twist.
