Lux Boba, tea and bubbles at Belval

Whether with milk, green tea, black tea, oolong, jasmine, matcha, peach, or strawberry — bubble tea comes in countless varieties. At Lux Boba in Belval, they offer not only iced teas but also coffee.

Seven years ago, Thu Vo left Vietnam to begin a new chapter in Luxembourg. Although she quickly grew to love the Grand Duchy, her background in the medical field made it challenging to find work. “With the language barrier, it was difficult to find a job in my field,” she explains in English. This prompted her to explore a completely different path: entrepreneurship.

She decided to focus on iced tea, a drink she knows well and has a strong connection to. In July, she opened her first shop, Lux Boba, in Belval Plaza. “Lux stands for Luxembourg, and Boba is the familiar term for bubble tea,” she explains. “Although the concept originated in Taiwan, bubble tea is popular throughout Asia, including in Vietnam.”

Here’s an interesting fact: the name bubble tea doesn’t come from the tapioca pearls that are usually added as a topping, but from the bubbles that form when the iced tea is shaken and properly chilled. It’s really that simple.

Limited Edition Creations

Her shop, designed in collaboration with designers from Vietnam and Luxembourg, offers a wide range of customisable iced teas. “We also have limited edition flavours that change with the seasons. For instance, I created a red, white, and blue tea for National Day,” she notes.

Thu’s concept appeals to all generations, from children to grandparents. Not only can you enjoy a delightful bubble tea, but you can also try bubble waffles””those delicious, bubble-shaped waffles that have become a hit across Asia.

Vietnamese Coffee

But Thu Vo also has a mission to introduce another delight from her homeland: Vietnamese coffee. Did you know that Vietnam is the world’s largest producer of robusta coffee and the second-largest coffee producer overall, just behind Brazil? This is a legacy of French colonialism, which introduced coffee cultivation in the latter half of the 19th century.

“I decided to showcase Vietnamese coffee,” Thu says. “I offer Saigon Coffee, with a variety of preparations: black coffee, coffee with milk, as well as drip coffee, and even Salted Milk Coffee, made with condensed milk and salted cream””one of the most popular drinks in the Land of the Dragon””or coconut iced coffee.”
