With the festive season approaching, join us on a tour of creations from some of the Grand Duchy’s master chocolatiers. Pure enchantment awaits!
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without its sweet delights and treats. Chocolate takes centre stage throughout Advent… and naturally, well beyond. KACHEN set out to discover the creations of several Grand Duchy chocolatiers* to showcase the exquisite surprises these artisans have in store for chocolate lovers.
Chocolate House
Step inside this beloved Luxembourg establishment and you might just feel you’ve wandered into Father Christmas’s own home. Here, your senses never rest: the aroma of chocolate fills the air, while thousands of creations catch your eye at every turn, from floor to ceiling. “The designs just come to me… And we add new ones every year!” says owner Nathalie Bonn. Since opening opposite the Grand Ducal Palace seventeen years ago, their selection has grown remarkably… From Saint Nicholas and Father Christmas figures in every size imaginable to reindeer, snowmen and December’s little helpers, from chocolate bars too beautiful to eat to Christmas-spiced Hot Chocolate Spoons, pralines, and even enchanting gingerbread houses and mouthwatering Stollen.

Oberweis
Just up the street, you’ll naturally come across Luxembourg’s master confectioner Oberweis. This year again, the renowned pastry chef and chocolatier has crafted exquisite chocolate pieces for the festive season: flat-moulded Christmas baubles filled with praline. They come in three tantalising flavours: almond praline (with almonds and dark chocolate), Pavé du Breedewee praline (hazelnut praline with feuilletine and milk chocolate) and mixed praline (pistachio and hazelnut praline with pistachios, hazelnuts, almonds and dark chocolate). The House of Oberweis has also unveiled its eagerly anticipated Advent calendar, brimming with delightful praline bears, chocolate-covered gingerbread and other specialities that showcase their artisanal mastery.

Genaveh
Further along Grand-Rue, a stone’s throw away, stands the charming powder-blue boutique of Genaveh. This artisan chocolatier, celebrating its 20th anniversary next year, offers a delightful array of Christmas treats. The packaging has been given a festive makeover: sparkling white and gold boxes radiate seasonal cheer. Throughout the year, the master chocolatier has crafted an Alice in Wonderland-themed collection. This Christmas creation is another triumph: delightful teapot boxes filled with chocolate fish and crunchy hazelnut cake pieces perfect for hanging on the tree, while their elegant Advent calendar promises daily moments of pure joy. Four new flavours join their chocolate collection: speculoos ganache, candied mandarin, Christmas tree praline and vanilla marzipan. True chocolate enthusiasts can even indulge in a Yule log made of surprise-filled spheres — perfect for sharing after the Christmas feast.

Chocolaterie RG
At just 26, promising young chocolatier Gabriel opened his boutique in the heart of Dudelange last year. Having honed his craft at both Genaveh and Oberweis, his passion led him to create his own distinctive confections. His workshop-cum-boutique naturally features Father Christmas and Saint Nicholas figures, alongside snowmen, Nutcrackers, and his debut Advent calendar. Gabriel has even included the traditional Père Fouettard (Knecht Ruprecht) in his collection! His reputation grows steadily, and his creations, already beloved by southern Luxembourg’s chocolate connoisseurs, often sell out during peak times. Yet you might hear Gabriel, who crafts everything on-site, say, “Pop back in two hours, and I’ll make it fresh for you.” Don’t miss his signature milk chocolate teddy bears with their heavenly marshmallow filling.

Les chocolats du Cœur
At the Tricentenaire Workshops, Les chocolats du Cœur crafts premium artisanal treats using fair trade ingredients, with recipes sometimes created by Luxembourg’s finest chefs. These sheltered workshops enable people with disabilities to create seasonal chocolate collections. This Christmas, Saint Nicholas figures take pride of place, alongside an innovative eco-friendly Advent calendar featuring handmade fabric pouches, artfully decorated chocolate bars, and Christmas tree arrangements. Everything can be personalised — perfect for thoughtful gifting. A must-visit for those wanting to combine Christmas indulgence with social consciousness.

Lola Valerius
Since 2021, Lola Valerius has been crafting premium chocolates in Esch-sur-Alzette, combining workshop and boutique under one roof. This festive season brought a special challenge: creating her first Advent calendar. “My chocolates are preservative-free with a 20-day shelf life… and I needed recyclable packaging — plastic wasn’t an option.” Through clever innovation, she’s created her first calendar featuring longer-lasting treats in 100% recyclable packaging. “And of course, our signature Christmas chocolate baubles are back!” she adds with pride.
