Restaurants
Nostos – 61 Rue des Trévires, L-2628 Luxembourg: An authentic spot not to be missed in Bonnevoie. Everything here is homemade. In the kitchen, the chef Dimitris prepares appetisers such as hummus and tzatziki, as well as grilled and marinated aubergines with parsley and walnuts, fresh and full of flavour, Graviera cheese croquettes. The star of the menu is the octopus: crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, served with fennel, radish, olive oil, lemon and a delicately smooth almond aioli. Every lunchtime, there’s a daily special.
Hugo Brunch – 89 Rue de Luxembourg, Bridel: Fancy a greek brunch? At Hugo, you will find classic brunch recipes (avocado toast, benedict eggs) but also greek specials such as spanakopita pie or Kagianas. For the sweeth tooth, chocolate and nut bars (vegan, lactose and gluten free) imported from Greece will be a good healthy snack. Even better? Try a greek coffee prepared by the baristas.
Athena – 56 Rue Adolphe Fischer, L-1520 Luxembourg: Immerse yourself in Greek culture with Athena, where plates are topped with gyros and prawns served with metaxa sauce and a bottle of Makedoniko or Imiglykos are waiting for you!
ÉLA – 37 Av. John F. Kennedy, L-1855 Luxembourg: ÉLA is the ideal place to share cold and hot mezze such as spanakopita, a scrumptious spinach pie with feta cheese. Equally tempting is their Greekburger, served in pita bread with beef together with a yoghurt truffle sauce!
Nazar – 6C Route de Luxembourg, L-1899 Luxembourg: Nazar is the perfect place to escape from Luxembourg and land directly in the heart of Greece. With a decorative interior in white and blue, rope and natural furnitures, and pink bougainvillea inside and on their cosy terrace, sit back, relax and enjoy Greek food in a fun atmosphere.
La Taverne Yamas – 6 Rue d’Anvers, L-1130 Luxembourg: A few steps away from the train station in the famous Rue d’Anvers, find La Taverne Yamas, whose chef, Petros Gatsoulis, has worked in some of the most popular Greek restaurants of Germany and the Grand Duchy. You can find here zucchini or fish dumplings, Mizithra puff pastry, Greek sausages with spicy peppers, shrimps flambéed with Ouzo or their pork kebabs, to name a few!
Snack bars and coffee place
Glyko – 10 Rue Genistre L-1623 Luxembourg: Glyko, means sweet in greek, and is the perfect spot in the city center to enjoy an authentic greek coffee, prepared by greek baristas. Frappé, freddo or classic espresso can be prepared on site or to go. At Glyko, there are also a large choise of dried fruits, nuts and pastries from Greece, such as “panorama”, a triangle of crispy phyllo filled with rich custard cream.
Grandpa’s – 60 Grand-Rue, L-1660 Luxembourg: To start off with the making of your souvlaki, guests can select between classic pita, Lebanese flatbread, Cypriot bread or Greek sandwich bread. Fillings are added as desired – meat, vegetables, extras – and of course the tzatziki. The side dishes have their own standing too: classic fries, fries with egg and feta or sweet potato fries with truffle mayo and graviera cheese. You can also find sweet greek pastries and coffee such as iced freddo espresso and freddo cappuccino.
Souvlaki The Original – 2a Rue de Mondercange, L-4381 Sanem: The first Greek souvlaki grill that opened in Luxembourg is worth a visit. Indeed, their Politiko burger is served in brioche bread with minced meat and a salad with carrot and cabbage. Divine! For dessert they serve Galaktoboureko, a semolina pudding with a crisp, flaky pastry and syrup.
Tsu Pies – 11 Av. de la Porte-Neuve, L-2227 Luxembourg: If you feel like having a snack, hop over to Tsu Pies, where they sell savoury spinach pies with feta cheese or some delightful butella with a melted chocolate praline spread. Don’t forget to check out the article we’ve written about them!
