The Tour of Luxembourg

In the communes of Grevenmacher, Wiltz, Steinfort, and Dudelange, unique gatherings have been planned to pay tribute to their distinct history as the new Grand Duke and Duchess arrive in each community on the fourth of October.

Grevenmacher

The tour begins at 13:00 at Stade Op Flohr, endorsing the theme: Sport as a vehicle for promoting volunteerism. Grevenmacher, a city of sport, will celebrate the volunteers who involve themselves within the sporting community, without whom, “a vibrant and dynamic community life would not be possible,” says the Ville de Grevenmacher. There will be workshops presented by various members of multiple sport associations, exhibiting the benefits of having an enthusiastic and hard-working community in sport. What a beautiful tribute to the community’s sport history along the Moselle!

Wiltz

Wiltz is hosting a party on its Grand-Rue, to highlight the town’s diversity. With a record setting 150-meter table in the centre, and hand-painted plates created by children from the Maisons Relais summer program and the residents of Geenzebléi setting the table, it is sure to be an event that cannot be missed. Be sure to reserve a seat at wiltz.lu!

The Grand Duke and Duchess will be formally welcomed in Wiltz at 14:20 with a reception in the amphitheatre, where guests can experience live musical performances and a video installation. At 15:20, the Grand-Rue and amphitheatre will transform into a huge celebration with shows and musical performances by Belgian soul and pop artist Selah, and Luxembourgish jazz artist and composer Claire Parsons. What an incredible evening!

Steinfort

Steinfort is home to the Hospital Intercommunal Steinfort, a vital establishment that takes care of individuals over 60, who have a loss of autonomy but still wish to live at home. This space is simultaneously a day centre, offering activities and a place of comfort to its visitors. The purpose of the Grand Duke and Duchess visiting the Hospital Intercommunal Steinfort, is to pay tribute to its healthcare workers, whose un-ending dedication to the wellbeing of its patients must not go unnoticed. This visit will last approximately 40 minutes, with both patients and healthcare workers being paid a visit by Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie at 16:20. Subsequently, a concert will be held at 18:00 in the Steinfort Cultural Centre, “An de Keeseminnen,” with a performance by Steinfort Music Ensemble.

Dudelange

As the final stop of the Grand Duke and Duchess’s Luxembourg tour, the community of Dudelange has a full day of activities for the public to enjoy before their visit at 17:40 at Site Neischmelz, to celebrate the city’s industrial heritage.

From 11:00 to 12:30, 135 free glasses of champagne will be given away at Plaz am Duerf. Along with gourmet tasting plates, it is the perfect mid-day pick me up ahead of a busy day of celebrating this treasured Luxembourgish tradition.

From 12:30, Site Neischmelz will have an old-style funfair, with street artists such as DJ Frietmachine, Clown Joe Del-Toe and EXOOT, performing alongside. There will also be workshops and photobooths at VeWe and Place Thierry Van Werveke, with something for all interests; art, sports, gardening and so much more!
