Venice, the most visited city in the world with 30 million tourists annually, is losing its tranquillity more and more. While it’s not discouraged to visit the city’s highlights, it’s best to explore Venice against the tourist flow.
During your first visit to Venice, you must not miss the St. Mark’s Square with the Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s Basilica and its Campanile, the Correr Museum, and the Clock Tower. The famous Café Florian is an option, but you can also enjoy your Ristretto in other nice and much cheaper cafés. A stay in Venice without visiting its centre is simply out of the question. However, you don’t necessarily have to stay in the city centre or fall into the tourist traps set by the gondoliers, as many of the city’s canals can be easily explored on foot.
