Vinoteca looks back on 25 years in the Luxembourg wine trade. Since its founding in 2000, the establishment – combining a wine bar and specialist shop – has become a fixture for quality-oriented wines. The anniversary was marked in mid-October with a small reception at the shop on Theaterplaz.
Several Luxembourg wineries that have been working with Vinoteca for many years were present to celebrate the occasion: L&R Kox, Aly Duhr, Sunnen-Hoffmann, Schmit-Fohl, Henri Ruppert, Keyser-Kohl and Caves Paul Legill. Foreign Minister and former Prime Minister Xavier Bettel also stopped by – accompanied by his new puppy – to offer his personal congratulations.

The atmosphere remained warm and familiar. Host Guy Tabourin, who founded Vinoteca 25 years ago, recalled the early days in his speech: “I came from the restaurant industry and realised there was a demand for high-quality wines from small producers. That’s how our first selection came about – and in essence, we still work according to that same principle today.”
From idea to institution
Vinoteca began as a supplier for the hospitality sector and later opened its own retail outlets. After locations in Kirchberg and Hollerich, the business moved in 2014 to its current premises in the old town on Theaterplaz. Today, the shop offers a wide range of wines, spirits and accessories, along with an online service and click-and-collect option. The focus remains on Luxembourg producers as well as organic and natural wines, which were added to the portfolio early on.
Since 2008, Vinoteca has also operated the popular wine bar on Rue Wiltheim. Under the direction of sommelier Rodolphe Chevalier – recently named Sommelier of the Year 2026 by Gault & Millau – guests can enjoy the wines paired with matching dishes.

An evening among friends
“The idea was to spend a lovely evening with our guests and some of the local winemakers who, over the years, have almost become friends,” said Arnaud Vaingre, describing the spirit of the anniversary celebration.
The event was intentionally kept small – not a grand gala, but a moment of gratitude and reunion. Between wine glasses, quiet conversation and a selection of 25 Luxembourg wines – one for each year of the company’s history – it became clear what has defined Vinoteca for 25 years: a genuine wine culture, close relationships with producers, and an unpretentious yet uncompromising passion for quality.
