It was his dream and now, just a few weeks in, it’s become reality. Clément Scherer has opened Wäinstuff, his very own wine bar, right in the heart of Dudelange.
Originally from Schifflange, Clément chose to settle in Dudelange, setting up shop on the side of the building at 46, Avenue Grande-Duchesse Charlotte. The former TICE bus driver has transformed about 80 square meters into a cozy haven for wine lovers. “This idea has been on my mind for five or six years,” he says with a smile.
“Wines no one had heard of”
Over the years, Clément’s passion for wine only grew stronger. “Whenever I was on holiday, I’d visit local vineyards and bring back bottles. Eventually, I had a cellar full of wines no one around me had ever heard of.”
Together with his best friend Antoine, he started hosting private tastings in people’s homes, under the motto Eise Waïn an Ärer Stuff, “Our wine in your living room.” That slogan later inspired the name of his bar: Wäinstuff.
A deliberate linguistic twist
“Technically, Wäinstuff is a mistake in Luxembourgish” it should be “Wäistuff,” Clément admits. “But that’s intentional.” It’s a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the motto of those early in-home tastings, and a nod to the personal journey that led him here.
Just days after opening, Clément had a surprise visitor: winemaker Anne Rouxelin from Bourgueil, in the Loire Valley, dropped by unannounced to introduce him to her wines. “It was a serendipitous encounter” Clément immediately said yes, bought up the last crates from her van, and proudly added her estate, Ansodelles, to his wine list.

Friendship in every glass
The bar seats around 40 guests and offers a carefully curated selection of about 100 wines. “Seventy percent come from small French producers I know personally.” One highlight is a wine from Corsica’s Île de Beauté, a rare find in Luxembourg: “I met the winemaker while on vacation, we’ve become close friends since.”
Luxembourgish wines also have a rightful place on the menu, with labels from local producers like Bob Molling (Molling Wines) and the Um Goldierg estate. “Benoît and Claude were amazing “” they supported and advised me through every step of the project,” says Clément, visibly grateful.
Dudelange backs the dream
To pair with the wines, guests can enjoy charcuterie and cheese boards, the meats come from a farmer near Lyon, and the generous platter for two is priced at just €18. Clément is still on the lookout for a local cheese supplier.
The City of Dudelange, he says, has been behind him from the start. “The support from the municipality was incredible, I feel really lucky.” At the grand opening on Saturday, April 5, the sun was shining as guests, locals, and even city officials gathered outside the bar for tastings and celebrations.
