What’s on the Table at Luxlait

When you think of Luxlait, milk products probably come to mind – perhaps their ever-nostalgic chocolate milk – a staple to any Luxembourgish childhood. But Luxlait’s range of dairy products goes far beyond just milk. From creamy eggnog to traditional kachkéis, we got a taste during a preview of their Brunch & Beyond event on the 12th of October, trying a wide variety of their products in a deliciously captivating brunch format. This brunch gave us a chance to go behind factory doors and explore Luxlait’s diverse array of products, along with a behind-scenes look at their production process – a unique experience, transporting you to the world of Willy Wonka.

Casual Brunch Done Right

As someone who takes brunch seriously, it felt essential to try just about everything on offer. Among Luxlait’s signature products, there was an impeccable selection of classic brunching items – mimosas, pancakes, mini röstis, just to name a few. The endless display of delicious-looking food was overwhelming at first, because, well, where do you even begin? Their yoghurt and skyr paired perfectly with a colourful assortment of fresh fruits and granolas, which also made ideal toppings for the mini pancakes, alongside various jams and honey. And when the eggs Benedict started making rounds, it was game over – I could not resist grabbing one straight off the tray as it floated by. To say we were full is an understatement, but it was completely worth it.

Group Activities Unlocking Curiosity

After brunching to our hearts’ content, guests were split into groups, and ours kicked off with an attempt at mastering latte art. It is easier said than done for someone who only drinks cappuccinos after watching a professional effortlessly create the foamed perfection – my attempt was stimulating, to say the least.

Two espresso masters taught us about the two main types of espresso beans, their unique qualities, and gave personal insight as to which coffee type reigns supreme. Using Illy’s Arabica coffee beans from Brazil, with subtle hints of caramel, it is safe to say that the coffee was undeniably sublime.

After drinking more coffee than I should have in the span of twenty minutes, it was time for the next adventure: a behind scenes look at Luxlait’s production process. Before entering the factory space, we suited up in white lab coats, instantly feeling like scientists about to sample Luxlait’s product. Fun fact: Luxlait’s dedicated team of scientists conduct around 3,000 product samples a day to ensure quality and detect any irregularities. As the tour continued, we saw the impressive machinery responsible for creating the packaging and mixing the ingredients, along with unique installations, adding to the overall excitement of the visit.

Luxlait’s Local Pride

Luxlait’s products are rooted in Luxembourgish pride. Around 300 local farmers supply dairy used in their products. Of the 300 to 400 different items produced daily, an impressive 65% are exported yearly to neighbouring countries, sharing a taste of Luxembourg beyond its borders.
