News from the Twins

The restaurant “Bei den Zwillingen” at the Junglinster golf course has undergone noticeable changes in recent months. In addition, the team is launching a new burger outlet in the nearby commercial zone Laangwiss.

For years, “Bei den Zwillingen” has been a well-established name in the region — known for its peaceful location at the “Um Belenhaff” golf course and one of the most relaxed terraces in the country. Run by Christian Thoma and his son Ben, the restaurant is a family operation with a focus on honest, high-quality cuisine using regional produce. In recent months, both the kitchen and terrace have been expanded, and a second location — “Twinz” — is set to open nearby with a more casual, focused concept.

More Space, Proven Concept

The most visible changes have taken place behind the scenes. The kitchen has been extensively expanded and modernised — a necessary move to cope with rising demand, especially on busy weekends or during events. At the same time, the terrace was extended all the way to the entrance and now offers nearly twice as many seats as before. In total, the restaurant can now accommodate around 150 à la carte guests, with a further 150 possible in the event area.

“This was a direct response to growing demand,” says Christian. “On sunny days, the terrace is often completely full.” The extra space allows for more flexibility, especially for walk-in guests. “We get a lot of people without reservations, so the setup needs to work for them too.”

Despite the physical expansion, the culinary approach remains accessible. The menu blends traditional dishes with modern touches — including sharing plates and a fixed weekday lunch offer. Weddings, seminars and corporate functions are a key part of the business and are often booked months in advance. “We want to offer good quality for a broad audience, not just a select few.” Judging by the steady midweek traffic — often weather-dependent — that approach is working well.

Rebranding Without Renaming

Alongside the physical changes, the restaurant has also updated its visual identity. The logo, website and all communication materials were redesigned with the aim of strengthening brand recognition without dropping the well-known name. “The name ‘Bei den Zwillingen’ is essential for us,” says Christian. “It refers to my twinsister Nadja and me — and we’ve been operating under that name since 2004.” Since then, the family team has grown to include Christian’s wife Simone as well as their sons Ben, Sam and Mik.

The new logo, developed by local agency Edutec, is more contemporary and easier to grasp for non-Luxembourgish speakers. Maintaining the twin motif was a key priority. The update was part of a long-term strategy to evolve the business without losing its roots.

Twinz – let there be burgers!

In addition to the changes at the main location, a new project is taking shape: a small burger outlet called “Twinz” is set to open in early June in the nearby Laangwiss commercial zone. The concept is deliberately streamlined — focusing on speed, local sourcing and straightforward service.

“We wanted something that fits the location,” explains Ben. The menu features classic beef burgers, no pork (with the exception of bacon), and vegetarian options. Soft drinks and takeaway are central to the offering; alcohol won’t be served at launch. Sustainability also plays a key role: plastic is to be avoided wherever possible, and reusable packaging is being trialled.

The decision to go ahead with the project was, according to Thoma, pragmatic. “We’d already run a similar concept in Echternach. The Laangwiss site is ideal — it’s nearby, well frequented, and easy to manage logistically.” A delivery service is under consideration for the future, but only if it proves viable. “We’re not looking to rush things,” Thoma says.
