What’s Happening on National Day 2024?

On the evening of June 22 and throughout June 23, there’s a lot going on in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg for National Day. Here’s a selection of this year’s events to mark on your calendar:

Luxembourg City

On the Eve:

  • National Day at Gudde Wëllen — The “Gudde Wëllen” is THE hotspot for the alternative scene in Luxembourg. This popular culture club is organizing a small, free music festival on Place August Engel in the Grund, featuring a diverse lineup of live music and DJ sets. More info: De Gudde Wëllen
  • Mesa Verde — If you love partying hard, this is the place to be. It’s best if you know someone who knows someone to get in. Depending on the mood of the owner, Lucien, parties here often go well past the usual closing time
  • City Sounds — The City Sounds Festival is undoubtedly the top event. Both on the eve and on National Day itself, a music festival will be held at the Glacis from 5:00 PM, featuring both local and major international bands and DJs. This year’s headliners are DJ Robin Schulz and the legendary American rock band TOTO. And the best part: entry is free. More info: City Sounds
  • The Fireworks — The grand fireworks display, illuminating the sky for the last 17 minutes of the evening, will be set off to a specially composed piece of music by Luxembourgish jazz musician Pol Belardi. We had already summarized the best spots to watch the spectacle last year: Best Spots to Enjoy the Fireworks

On National Day:

  • Traditional Ceremony and Military Parade — If you can get up early on the morning of June 23, don’t miss the grand traditional military parade on Avenue de la Liberté. More info: vdl.lu
  • Spillfest — If you have kids in tow, definitely plan a visit to the Kinnekswiss in Luxembourg City Park. From 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, various local clubs and artists offer a range of unique and educational games. Participation is, of course, free. More info: Spillfest

In the Rest of the Country

  • Esch Celebrates National Day — The southern metropolis also celebrates extensively. A program of music, food, and drinks will be organized all Sunday long on the town hall square. More info: Esch Celebrates National Day
  • Civil Ceremony — Diekirch follows its traditional customs: Between 10:00 and 11:30 AM, the “Te Deum” mass, the traditional civil ceremony, and a festive speech by the mayor will take place. Afterwards, there will be a small reception. More info: Diekirch
  • Open-Air Art Festival 2024 — Lellingen has something special to offer on National Day: an open-air art festival featuring around 100 artists, including painters, sculptors, and street and circus performers. A live art competition will also take place, where visitors can vote for the winner. Additionally, workshops for children, teens, and adults will be led by professional artists. A must for all creatives and art enthusiasts! More info: Art Festival

Special Delights

To celebrate this special day, some established Luxembourgish manufacturers have come up with something unique:

  • Rosport continues the tradition of recent years by releasing a limited edition bottle series for National Day, in collaboration with a Luxembourgish artist. This year it features Ruth Lorang.
  • Chocolaterie Genaveh has teamed up with artist Jacques Schneider for a special praline creation. The small sweet chocolate bites are shaped like the cufflinks of the Grand Ducal family’s uniforms.
