With the last warm rays of sunshine, summer 2025 is drawing to a close. For the Moselle winemakers it has been a successful year – thanks to almost perfect weather, the harvest could begin earlier than usual.
Of course, we are all a little disappointed at how quickly summer has passed this year – but for the Moselle vintners it was nevertheless a complete success. Sun and rain balanced each other out, the grapes ripened beautifully, and so the harvest could start relatively early. “Normally I’m still picking in the middle of the Riesling Open, but this year I’m already done beforehand!” said winemaker Jeff Konsbrück, President of the Winegrowers’ Solidarity Fund, with satisfaction.
As every year, alongside the start of the vineyard work there was also the “official” symbolic launch with a visit from the Minister of Agriculture, which took place on Thursday, 18 September. This time the reception was held on the old helicopter landing site amidst the vineyards of Ehnen – a charming Moselle village which, with eight active winemakers and 50 hectares of vines, is a true showcase of Luxembourg’s wine culture.

A good year for wine lovers
“We really do have an excellent harvest this year, with top quality for both wine and Crémant,” assured Konsbrück. A fitting result, as next year will see major anniversaries: 60 years of the Independent Winegrowers, 60 years of Vinsmoselle and 35 years of “Crémant du Luxembourg”. “With this year’s vintage we certainly have some fine bottles to raise a glass with at the upcoming festivities!”
Agriculture Minister Martine Hansen also expressed her delight at the excellent conditions and praised the cooperation between the state-run Viti-Vinicole Institute and the three major winegrowers’ associations. Alongside her were MPs Octavie Modert (CSV) and Lexi Schoos (ADR), as well as various representatives from winegrowing, tourism and the press.
After the ceremonial cutting of the vines, guests were able to taste this year’s Federweißer, which thanks to the favourable weather presented itself as particularly fruity and sweet, with a fresh, lively acidity – a clear sign of excellent vintage quality.
In this spirit: cheers – and drink more local wine!
