Coffee and crêpes : Café BORA

Café Bora, located in the former Wanderscheid grocery store in the city center, opened its doors mid-December. Bora, the founder, wanted to create a cozy and welcoming café with something extra: crêpes. We went to check out the place.

Having arrived in Luxembourg three years ago to pursue a master’s in Finance, Bora, originally from Albania, found her calling while working at Konrad’s café. When she decided to launch her own business, her financial background helped her a lot. “I’ve always loved the Wanderscheid’s location, so when it closed, I started working on my business plan, and when I saw it was still available, I jumped in!” she explains with a smile. Bora certainly doesn’t lack motivation or drive. Her secret? “I turned my hobby into my work, lucky me,” she confides.

“A good smell and good music are essential to me.”

For a successful customer experience, Bora has thought of everything. As soon as you step through the door, a gentle scent greets your senses, making your mouth water. “It’s important that a café smells good when you walk in, that the lighting is inviting, and that the music is carefully chosen,” she adds.

The space, in excellent condition, has been decorated with elements to make it feel cozy and inviting. Light wood and green tones dominate, along with exposed stone walls in the basement. A counter along the wall and a bookshelf filled with books provide a comfortable place to relax. On one wall, Bora displays part of her postcard collection. “I’ve put up postcards I bought during my travels, as well as some I received from friends.”

Crêpes Party

“I wanted to open a café offering something different from what you can find elsewhere in the city center, so I chose crêpes,” Bora says. To make this happen, she invested in two professional crêpe makers. “I practiced to perfect the technique, and the recipe was also tested and approved by my friends.” The toppings include classics like sugar and Nutella, as well as an apple and cinnamon crêpe, which Bora says is a big hit.

The menu also features cookies, yogurt with granola, and cakes. On the savory side, there are sandwiches and savory crêpes. Bora also emphasizes the importance of serving great coffee.

Open 7 Days a Week

Café Bora is open every day from 8 am to 8 pm. “I don’t want to close even one day!” she says enthusiastically. Recently joined by Katalina in the front-of-house, the energy and eagerness to welcome customers is clear. “Since opening, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the number of people who’ve come through the door. Of course, there were many tourists during the Christmas holidays, so now I’m curious to see who my regular clientele will be.”

Next time you’re in the city center, let yourself be guided by the sounds of the folk playlist and the delicious aroma of crêpes, tested and approved by Kachen.
