This Sunday, Luxembourg City becomes the showcase of a very unique competition: “De Gudde Wëllen” invites all waitstaff, barmen, and anyone who’s ever dreamed of joining the hustle and bustle behind the bar to participate in the inaugural “Waiter’s Hill Race”. You can expect a spectacle full of speed, skill, creativity, but above all, a lot of fun and entertainment.
Without a World or European Cup or the Summer Olympics, this year’s summer lacks the usual buzz of an athletic competition. So, De Gudde Wëllen Team took it upon themselves to introduce some competitive spirit into the city’s atmosphere.
The concept? Simple yet genius: the country’s best-known bars and restaurants have their teams compete against each other in various races through the streets of Luxembourg-city, all vying for glory and bragging rights. But this isn’t your typical footrace. Each runner has to balance a tray of drinks while crossing the different routes and make sure that nothing is spilled.
But speed and skill are not all that the teams have to deliver. At the end of the race, a catwalk awaits the participants, where they can demonstrate their style and attitude. Prizes will then be awarded for the fastest runner, the smallest amount of spilled drinks, but also for the best costume and the “best performance” overall.
While the event primarily invites professionals from the Luxembourgish bar and restaurant scene, anyone keen to participate is welcome. Registrations are open on De Gudde Wëllen’s Website.
Of course, winners can expect accolades and fantastic prizes like a day spa for two, or a year of free concert entries at De Gudde Wëllen, the true essence of the event is to have fun. It aims to celebrate the tight-knit bar and restaurant community in Luxembourg and shine a spotlight on hard-working service professionals.
De Gudde Wëllen invites everyone to come and see the show — whether you’re a curious spectator or cheering for your favourite waiter. It will certainly be a memorable Sunday afternoon. The race starts this Sunday, August 13th at 4PM, at De Gudde Wëllen’s terrace, the “Gudde Weather”.
