A first in the Luxembourgish food retail sector: Delhaize is launching digital till receipts in its shops. The choice remains in the hands of the consumer.
At the beginning of 2022, customers in Delhaize shops in Luxembourg will be able to request a digital till receipt instead of the traditional paper one via their SuperPlus app. By offering a digital receipt, Delhaize is opting for a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative, in line with its ambitious “The Lion’s Footprint” programme. It also allows the customer to keep an overview of their various purchases at Delhaize. Customers will have this choice in Delhaize shops in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, both at traditional checkouts and at quick-scan and self-scan checkouts.
How does it work in practice? Customers can indicate via the Delhaize Luxembourg application if they wish to receive only a digital ticket when they shop. Once they have made this choice, they will no longer receive a paper ticket for their purchases. As the issuance of an official proof of purchase is a legal requirement for every purchase, it will now be done either by paper or electronically via the Delhaize loyalty program. In order to benefit from the electronic receipt you will need an account on the Delhaize app and therefore a valid email address. The customer retains the possibility to change his mind at any time and return to the paper ticket by indicating this in the app.
Thanks to this change, in Luxembourg alone, Delhaize could potentially save no less than 6 tons of paper on an annual basis, which corresponds to 2,000 km of paper or a CO2 emission of 5.5 tons. In addition to the sustainability aspect, the practicality for the customer is also important. Now the customer can easily and conveniently consult and re-read his receipt at any time. No more lost receipts.
