Those traveling to the Department Eure in Normandy this year can look forward to special celebrations: 150 years of Impressionism. Around Giverny and Claude Monet’s house and gardens, the region offers not only its charming Bocage landscape and country estates but also plenty of art events.
How about immersing yourself in nature and culture for a short break? The Department Eure in Normandy invites you to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Impressionism this year. The prominent figures of this artistic movement came to this region at the end of the 19th century to paint the sea, the Bocage landscape, rivers, and castles that characterize the area. They created a style that represents the landscape more through emotion and light (“Impression”) than realism, a radical contrast to the prevailing academicism.
