The Great Colombia Journey

Mountains, plains, and forests, Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean: Colombia is a country full of contrasts. Far from the stigma of insecurity attached to it, pre-Columbian ruins, coffee plantations, and colonial cities make the discovery journey through this diverse, hospitable country an experience.

A journey through Colombia? No, several! How else could one do justice to the enormous geographical and cultural diversity of this country? Clearly, Colombia cannot be discovered in a day. In the southeast, the Amazon is a destination in itself. The vast plains of the Llanos are a “Wild East” that makes the hearts of all adventurers beat faster. Seeing the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean on a trip? Possible, but complicated. However, those who take at least two weeks can get to know the highlights of this destination, which hug the three cordilleras of the country on a north-south axis. From the Departamento del Cauca in the south to Cartagena on the Caribbean Sea, the slopes of the West, Central, and East cordilleras and the valleys that separate them unite not only the majority of the population but also the country’s main attractions. Mountains, rivers (the Río Magdalena and the Río Cauca), deserts, forests, coffee plantations, pre-Columbian ruins, colonial cities … The country offers travellers an intimate look behind the scenes on this broad strip.
