Domaine L&R Kox, Luxsense, SnT and AERO41 join European Research and Development Project for the Digitalization of key European Industries

With the goal to cultivate a data acquisition and analysis system that can be applied in viticulture, the three Luxembourgish companies, Domaine L&R Kox, LuxSense and Aero4, team up with the SnT research groups at the University of Luxembourg and the SESAME project to pursue the digital transformation for key European sectors.

The Luxembourgish winemaker, in collaboration with LuxSense, Aero4 and the SnT, will be involved in the pilot deployments and validation of the new SESAME platform (Secure and Safe Multi-Robot Systems) by testing and collecting data through the new technologies in viticulture. Enhanced with novel sensor fusion and planning algorithms, developed by the SnT, these new technologies seek to facilitate the digital transformation in viticulture.

Dr Corinne Kox, manager of Domaine L&R Kox, explains that they “will use a set of methodologies, analyses and processes to develop a multi-robot system (MRS) to be applied for crop protection and disease detection in vineyards“. This is significant to the continued prosperity of the sector, as “crop growth modelling and disease detection will be key to contribute significantly to environmental sustainability in viticulture.”

In addition to viticulture, the innovative framework will be extensively validated through five industrial pilots, addressing MRS for Healthcare, Manufacturing, Agri-food, and Infrastructure Inspection. This 7 million € collaboration between partners from 8 European nations, is financed in part by the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme, an initiative of the European Community created to foster European research and development of new technologies, applications and industries.

The SESAME project will run through the end of 2023. The resulting platform will be made available in open source.
