Farm Festival on Sunday in Oberkorn

One of the biggest open days in the area, Haff Tempels will celebrate the farm on Sunday, 29 September, with more than 4,000 visitors expected in Oberkorn.

Guy Tempels is undoubtedly one of the most important farmers in the South (read our article). He, who dedicates his time to this passion-driven profession inherited from his parents and grandparents, has also been offering his neighbours and all lovers of a friendly atmosphere the chance to discover his farm and farm products for around fifteen years.

Every last Sunday in September (except during the Covid period and last year – “I was helping my son settle for his studies”), for about fifteen years, all of Oberkorn, Differdange, and even the South, come to meet him: “We usually expect between 4,000 and 5,000 people throughout the day.”

Just a few dozen metres on foot from the Oberkorn train station, the farmer opens his farm for a festive day. The programme includes farm product stalls (from Tempels and other farms in the region), demonstrations of old trades, an exhibition of vintage machinery, pumpkin sales, music, food, and a great atmosphere..

A programme for the whole family

The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a mass celebrated in the stable by Jean-Pierre Reiners, the priest from Differdange, “with an altar made of hay bales and decorated by us,” explains the owner. This will be followed by an “apéro” (drinks), and then lunch. “This year, there’s no set menu like in previous years, but we’ll have classic grills as well as hamburgers and wild boar sausages from the Luxembourg hunting group. And of course, a refreshment stand, coffee, and cakes.”

As for activities, there will be something for both young and old. Face-painting workshops, basket weaving, an exhibition of old agricultural equipment, demonstrations of carpentry and blacksmithing, and music with Jos Pletschet (Luxembourgish country music), DJ Petz, and DJ Fritz – “friends” and a musical group from Pétange. The stage will be set up in a container (topped with a tractor in the photo).

Farm products

Several stands will be dedicated to farm products:
– Apples from Contern, with freshly pressed apple juice.
– Dried or smoked garlic from the Conter family of Saeul.
– Oils (rapeseed, sunflower, hazelnut…) from the Chary family in Aumetz.
– Handmade soaps.
– Products from Bio Buttek in Differdange.
– Schnapps.
– And of course, the regular products from the Tempels farm, including eggs, potatoes, onions, apple vinegar, jams… and beautiful seasonal arrangements, created by a team of volunteers.

Pumpkin paradise!

Not to mention the magnificent pumpkin barn, open until mid-November: “We planted 4,000 pumpkins (kurbi in Luxembourgish, including gourds and squashes), so we offer them for decoration, but also for consumption or Halloween!”

And of course, the Charolais cows in the stable are always a highlight for visitors.
