Gabriel Le Quang wins the title of “Meilleur Ouvrier de France Pâtissier-Confiseur”

At the age of 33, Gabriel Le Quang, deputy pastry chef at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, has won the title of “Meilleur Ouvrier de France Pâtissier-Confiseur”.

Gabriel Le Quang, the deputy head pastry chef at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, won the title of “Meilleur Ouvrier de France Pâtissier-Confiseur”. The prestigious award will be presented to him in June by the Minister of National Education and Youth at an official ceremony at the Sorbonne. All “Meilleurs Ouvriers de France” will then gather at the Élysée Palace to listen to a speech that will be given by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, in their honour.

The “Meilleur Ouvrier de France” (MOF) is a title approved by the Ministry of National Education and Youth. It is only awarded in France, in specialised fields, through a competition between professionals. The test lasts 27 hours over three days and is evaluated based on technique, innovation, presentation, efficiency, and taste. Participants work for months, even years, to prepare for the competition, and the final has a specific theme. The curriculum is presented two years before the exam so that participants have ample time to achieve the required level of skill and perfection.

Lilian Bonnefoi, head pastry chef at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc for 28 years, supported and accompanied Gabriel throughout his preparations for the competition in 2020. According to Lilian, “Gabriel has really worked hard. He constantly strives for excellence and perfection and has a strong artistic sense. He has all the necessary qualities to be a MOF.”
