Goodbye Lou’s Diner, Welcome BB’S Diner

Blues music plays softly in the background, mingling with the irresistible aroma of freshly grilled burgers and the classic American roadhouse décor. Stepping inside, the experience may feel reminiscent of its predecessor, Lou’s Diner, yet a glance at the signage makes it clear: this is BB’S Diner, a new chapter for Beidweiler’s much-loved burger destination.

From Lou’s Legacy to BB’S Identity

For years, Lou’s Diner enjoyed an iconic reputation, attracting guests from across the country for authentic, juicy American burgers. Its closure came as a shock to many, especially to Michael Bonherz and Carlo Boulanger. Unwilling to see the legacy vanish, they decided to take charge and reimagine the space as BB’S Diner, ensuring that Beidweiler’s vibrant burger scene lived on.

On 4 September, BB’S Diner held its grand opening, and KACHEN was there for a taste and a chat with co-owner Michael Bonerz. The décor is virtually unchanged; only the name differs. When asked about the origins of the new name, Michael explained: “It’s our philosophy. This is a burger in American roadhouse style. That’s why we took over the place, and the philosophy behind it is: if you think about American roadhouses, you immediately think Burgers, Beer, and Blues.” That is the spirit from which BB’S—Burgers, Beer and Blues Diner—was born.

Right now, the menu remains straightforward and familiar. Michael reassured us this is only temporary: “That is basically the old menu – the one Lou’s Diner ended with. So that our staff can manage everything properly at the start, we decided to stick with this menu for at least the first three to four weeks.” Change is coming soon, though: a Signature Burger is in the works, and chicken nuggets will move from occasional treat to daily staple, all in response to customer demand.

Current opening hours mirror tradition, with BB’S Diner serving guests from Thursday to Saturday between 12 pm and 8 pm, and on Sundays from 3 pm to 8 pm. Prices remain unchanged, ensuring regulars feel right at home.

While BB’S Diner honours Lou’s Diner welcoming spirit and roadhouse inspiration, Michael Bonerz emphasises his own vision for growth and unique identity. The new ownership and name mark the beginning of a gradual transformation, with new ideas and features set to be introduced over time. The team plans to expand their offerings and host a variety of events, promising distinct experiences that evolve alongside the local community. Meaningful differences from Lou’s Diner will emerge gradually, as BB’S Diner shapes its own identity in response to guest preferences and ongoing development.

The Food Experience and Guest Connection

Michael shares a heartfelt message for guests: BB’S Diner hopes its customers remain loyal and that feedback—whether praise or criticism—is shared directly and openly. Honest communication is valued as the team seeks to uphold and improve the quality of food and service, preferring genuine discussion over online commentary.

KACHEN sampled the menu and found burgers that deliver on their promise: tender patties seared to perfection, nestled in toasted brioche buns, served alongside golden, crispy fries. Each bite offered juicy, smoky flavour with just the right seasoning – authentic American style fare that satisfies both nostalgia and appetite.

As BB’S Diner grows, guests can look forward to creative new options alongside the classics, ensuring there’s something to tempt every taste. With a blend of tradition and fresh ambition, BB’S Diner is set to keep Beidweiler’s burger scene alive and thriving.
