KACHEN tests: FeVi Street

This time, our unannounced restaurant review column takes us to FeVi Street in Esch-sur-Alzette, where renowned chef Fernando Andreu attempts to reinterpret the concept of Iberian street food.

A New Chapter in a Classic Setting

Hidden in the library of Hotel SixSeven, FeVi Street promises a fusion of traditional Iberian street food with a modern twist. A promising concept, backed by head chef Fernando Andreu’s distinguished background. For more information about the restaurant and the chef, read our article on the opening here.

We sampled a large number of delicious tapas and definitely left well-satisfied. Here’s a brief overview and personal notes on what we tried:

The Quesadilla, generously filled with four types of cheese and a sweet-spicy piquillo chili jam, was a successful starter, though in my opinion, it could have used more heat.

The vegan cauliflower “Cruggets” served with a spicy-sweet mango mustard sauce are a real show-stealer and exceeded all expectations.

The Beef Tartare, enhanced with sautéed Padrón peppers, offers a pleasantly spicy note through its marinade, which skillfully elevates this otherwise mild meat dish.

The Spare Ribs are exactly as expected: hot and savoury. However, the “Iberian twist,” the chimichurri sauce, could be a bit spicier for our taste. In our region, spiciness is often held back, which is understandable, but heat lovers might want to ask for a more intense version.

From mushrooms to tomato mozzarella to peppery chorizo — the selection of fried Croquetas is impressive. However, the Jamón Iberico croquetas stand out most for their authenticity and intense flavor. Sometimes you simply can’t beat the classic. The fish and seafood varieties bring an exciting new flavor direction, while the comparatively unremarkable chicken croquetas ranked lowest in our evaluation.

The Hotdog is one of the clear menu highlights: Juicy, slightly spicy, and served in a brioche bun, this chorizo hotdog with its exquisite mustard and honey sauce and caramelized onions is a perfectly balanced delight!

The dessert menu features Spanish classics like Crème Catalane, Churros, and a Cheesecake with Basque goat cheese. However, we decided to try the “Maknum” — any name similarities to a commercially popular ice cream bar are purely coincidental… The ice cream, a combination of dark chocolate and jalapeño, was completely convincing. Those familiar with Central and South American cuisine might know that bittersweet dark chocolate and spicy jalapeños form a surprisingly harmonious combination. This homemade ice cream bar confirms this rule and concluded our Iberian feast on a sweet-spicy “dulce y caliente” note.

Verdict

FeVi Street proves that Iberian street food can be more than just tapas and paella. Despite minor weaknesses in seasoning, the dishes are consistently solid and offer good value for money considering the quality. A visit — if not several — is recommended for anyone looking for a casual dining experience with a touch of culinary adventure. Our advice: Sample your way through the entire menu and find your favorites, as there should be something for everyone!
