In our new section “KACHEN tested,” we try out new concept in trending restaurant. Last Thursday, June 13, 2024, our journalist Marion tried out the new theme diner at Glow in Luxembourg City (Bonnevoie).
Living in Bonnevoie, I (often) stop off at 8am at Glow, a vegan café, to have a cinnamon roll for breakfast, lover of good things that I am. On Wednesday morning, I saw a flyer for a ‘Mexican fiesta’ on Thursday evening. The first in a series of themed dinners on Thursday evenings. This café is rarely open in the evening, so I immediately booked a table for 2!
The pleasant surprise: a BYOB evening
On Thursday morning, I took another look at the Glow’s Instagram post for details of the evening. The starter-main course-dessert menu is €33, which is very reasonable, especially when I know I’m going to eat well. I am then pleasantly surprised to read that you can bring your own alcohol (this café doesn’t have an alcohol licence). There aren’t many BYOB addresses in Luxembourg, and that makes me very happy. So I quickly put a bottle of rosé in the fridge for the evening!

A peaceful dinner
At 7.30 pm, the sun warms the terrace (a little) and I choose to eat outside. The street is residential and very quiet. Only a few locals are out walking their dogs, or returning home after a day’s work, all the while glancing at our table, probably surprised to discover that the restaurant is open at this time! I uncork our bottle, pour my friend and I a glass while Laure, the owner, brings us tortillas with homemade guacamole. The Mexican evening is off to a great start!
Beautiful visual in the plates for great tasting
The starter arrives and I’m won over by the colourful, summery look. The tasting did not disappoint. A melt-in-the-mouth, slightly warm sweet potato that goes wonderfully well with a puree of avocado, tomatoes, peppers and coriander. A real treat!
Now for the main course, and once again I love the way the dish is presented! As someone who pays as much attention to visuals as to taste, I’m spoilt for choice. Two wheat tortillas with black beans and smoked Jackfruit, accompanied by a mango salsa. Delicious and very hearty!
A surprisingly fresh vegan dessert
I love Glow’s vegan desserts, so I couldn’t wait to try them! Once again, I’m not disappointed. Laure brought us (after a break to digest quietly, no rush here!) a lime and coconut “raw cake”. Once again, I was delighted with the pastel green cake and the colourful fruit. And I didn’t leave a crumb, because it was so sweet, light and fresh, perfect for ending the evening.
My verdict ? A lovely evening in the Bonnevoie district that I love so much, with a perfect menu. I’m very tempted to book a table for the Bollywood evening that’s coming up (every Thursday evening there’s a different theme). Maybe I’ll see you there.
