Michelin-starred chef Mathieu van Wetteren of the Apdikt restaurant (Steinfort) talks about his natural collaboration with Audi, a German brand that is always striving for excellence, just like him in the kitchen.
Was choosing Audi an obvious choice for you?
It was crucial for me that it be a German brand because I only drive German cars. Of course, I also grew up with Audi commercials on TV, and it’s an honor for me to be part of it. Audi’s slogan, “Vorsprung durch Technik” (Advancement through Technology), aligns with my work philosophy. I am always innovating to reach the highest level.
Had you ever driven an electric car before?
It was a real discovery for me, as I’ve only ever driven gasoline cars. What I appreciate most is the complete silence inside the cabin. I also love motorsport, but that noise belongs on a racetrack. Everything has its place. In my kitchen (which is open to the restaurant) everything functions like a ballet.
Audi embodies excellence and passion””does that resonate with you too?
That’s my mantra. I’m a passionate person who lives only to achieve excellence. For me, it means giving your all, trying again and again, being organized, and dedicated to your work. Once you reach excellence, you can touch perfection without it reaching it completely as I believe perfection is the enemy of creativity.
What do you think of the refined design of the Audi Q6 e-tron?
I like the simplicity of the design. I expect a car to take me from point A to point B because I don’t need unnecessary frills. The Audi Q6 e-tron focuses on the essentials. Everything has its place, nothing is superfluous. It’s a bit like my cooking””you’ll only find essential ingredients on my plate, each with a purpose. Everything is there for a reason. And if I can create a “wow” effect in your mouth, even if the exterior, which is sometimes understated, didn’t impress as much, then that’s even better. I’m convinced that it’s the taste memory that will be most unforgettable.
