The opening had been announced for several weeks already, and smash burger enthusiasts were eagerly awaiting it! Munchies, the new spot from the De Toffol brothers, who are already behind Partigiano, Bella Ciao, Häerz, and Schuman, opened its doors on Friday, March 14, on Rue de Chimay.
As stated in their press release, “Munchies Burger aims to redefine the burger experience in Luxembourg.” We went to try out this new place that everyone’s been talking about.
A Colorful and Retro Design
Inside, the decor is minimalist, with green and white tiles, booths, and round tables topped with small retro-style round lamps. The green and white tones are combined with terracotta accents in some areas, giving it a lively, vibrant feel. On the wall, the colourful lettering “burger lovers social club,” which is highly Instagrammable, along with a pinball machine in the room, reflect the De Toffol brothers’ desire to create a “munchies community.”
Above the counter, a white illuminated sign with black lettering presents the menu, reminding you of the classic “burger joint” spirit. Orders are placed at a kiosk, and customers then pick up their orders at the counter.
For those in a hurry, orders can be taken home or to the office in paper bags. For those who want to continue the culinary experience on-site, you can choose your space to devour your burger. A small downside, in our opinion, is the use of disposable tableware for eating on-site, such as plastic cups and the paper bag for the fries, especially when the ambition is to use reusable tableware in the hospitality industry.

Smash Burgers, Loaded Fries, and KFC
On the menu, there are 5 types of smash burgers for meat lovers, along with a vegetarian option. The beef comes from a local producer (Jeff Malget), and the buns, stamped with Munchies on top, are made by the Luxembourg bakery “Boulangerie Mosella.” All the brioche buns are topped with a double steak.
We loved the “Oklahoma Burger,” made with 3 types of onions (caramelized, grilled, and confit), which resulted in a melt-in-the-mouth, flavorful experience. The beef patty, as its name suggests, is smashed and then grilled on the plate for a slightly crispy exterior. However, we didn’t dare try the “Flying Dutchman” (probably a nod to the famous bar in Beaufort), which is prepared not with a brioche bun but with slices of white onion…!
As a side, Munchies offers the famous “loaded fries,” which are fries smothered in sauce, for the more daring. The “Korean fried chicken” side dish, which can also be ordered as a burger, is perfectly executed, with tender and crispy chicken.

Prosecco Glass for 2 Euros
For fans of bubbles, you can pair your burger with a glass of prosecco (12.5 cl) for just 2 euros! On the soft drink side, there is a wide selection of kombucha from the Belgian brand “Rish,” and of course, milkshakes in chocolate, banana, caramel, or speculoos flavors, all prepared by the kitchen team.
Munchies undeniably succeeds in offering delicious smash burgers to devour in a retro U.S. diner atmosphere.
