Ingredients

  • 100 grams rolled oats
  • 500 ml milk
  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 30 grams unsalted butter
  • 25 grams brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: chopped nuts, star anise, or additional cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  2. Melt butter in a medium-sized pan over medium heat.
  3. Add the sliced apples and cook until softened (about 5 minutes).
  4. Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon over the apples, stirring to coat evenly.
  5. Continue cooking until apples are tender and caramelised (another 5-7 minutes), then set aside.
  6. In a separate saucepan, combine oats, milk, and a pinch of salt.
  7. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until the oatmeal reaches your desired consistency (about 5-7 minutes).
  8. If needed, add more milk.
  9. Divide the cooked oatmeal into two bowls.
  10. Top each serving with the caramelised apple mixture.
  11. Garnish with additional cinnamon and optional toppings like chopped nuts or star anise.
  12. Serve warm.
