On Tuesday, May 7th, exactly one year before the kickoff of the ambitious Luxembourg Urban Garden (LUGA) project, the official press conference took place at MUDAM. Attendees included Project Coordinator Anne Muller, the Mayor of Luxembourg, Lydie Polfer, the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, Martine Hansen, and the Mayor of Ettelbruck, Bob Steichen.
LUGA is one of the most ambitious projects in recent years. From May 7 to October 18, 2025, the city of Luxembourg will transform into a sprawling open-air museum showcasing urban gardens, landscaping and art installations, as well as agricultural projects. The exhibition areas extend along the city’s “green belt,” from Parc Municipal through Péitruss and Uelzechtdall to Kirchberg.
Secondary Venue: Nordstadt
Although the capital is the centerpiece of LUGA, it is not the only venue. An important partner is the city of Ettelbruck. “Ettelbruck, the city of farmers, is proud of its role,” said Mayor Bob Steichen. “As the former site of the Agricultural School and the annual venue of the Foire Agricole, it was natural for us to participate in this project.” Thus, an exhibition area dedicated entirely to regional agriculture is also being developed here. The Foire Agricole in July 2025 will also be themed around LUGA. The collaboration extends to the Agricultural School, the Edward Steichen Collection, the “Rousefrënn”, the CNL, and the Cercle Cité.
Places of Life
Each of the four exhibition areas will host “Lieux de vie” (meeting places), serving as vibrant centers. The “Culture Hub” in Parc Municipal will offer culinary experiences and smaller events by local restaurateurs. The “Science Hub” in Péitrussdall will serve as an area for experimentation, education, and exhibitions. The “Luga Lab” in Parc Odendahl will become a meeting place for locals and visitors, fostering inclusion and community. The “Agriculture Hub” in Ettelbruck will provide information on agricultural topics and host various events.

Mayor Lydie Polfer aptly expressed the general mood: “Today, I just want to express my gratitude to everyone involved in this project. I look forward to experiencing together what we will have created in a year.” We join in this sentiment! We are excited to see how this promising event will evolve and what surprises await us.
