It’s almost time for St Nicolas’ Day! This festive period is a great opportunity to enjoy traditional “Boxemännecher” with a good cinnamon hot chocolate and some sweets for the wiser ones… But before that, let’s have a look at this beautiful tradition.
The history of the “Boxemännchen” is closely linked to St Nicolas’ Day. Unlike Father Christmas, he wears a red pointed hat and holds a stick in his hand. Most of the time, St Nicolas is accompanied by the bogeyman, who, dressed in a dark suit, hands out twigs to children who have not behaved well during the year. Two weeks before the long-awaited 6th of December, every evening, the children put their slippers in front of the fireplace or their plate in front of their bedroom door to receive some sweets, mandarins or, of course, a “Boxemännchen”. On the night of the 5th to the 6th of December, St Nicolas is particularly generous and distributes many treats.
Fischer is doing its share to contribute to the success of this special tradition. To spoil children, nothing beats the classic Boxemännchen recipe that is also available in a variety of versions and formats, with different types of dough and weights ranging from 50 g to 1,000 g. Finally, for those who still want to vary the pleasures, Fischer invites you to discover their St Nicolas mitre filled with gingerbread, good sweets and many other surprises…
