Blind John – An apéritif for Luxembourg

Blind John? “Ah, the Blanne Jang!” a long-time Luxembourger might think. But the name is misleading: what has been on sale since 10 August shares only its historic namesake with the well-known grilled speciality. Blind John is in fact a light, citrus-driven apéritif made for long summer evenings.

The drink pays tribute to John the Blind, King of Bohemia and Count of Luxembourg, born on 10 August. A historic figure symbolising courage and inner vision, he provides the inspiration for a product that combines modern ease with a touch of legend.

It comes in two varieties, both at 17% ABV and free from artificial flavours or colours:
– Lemon – vodka-based with natural lemon extract, fresh and crisp in flavour.
– Blood Orange – made with whole blood oranges, fruity and intense.

The concept focuses on natural ingredients, moderate alcohol content and versatility. It can be enjoyed neat or used in cocktails, from Spritz variations to inventive personal creations.

The brand is developed by Luxembourg-based MEW S.à r.l., which since 2017 has supported and co-created various local products – including the country’s first whisky. With Blind John, the company aims to offer a distinctly Luxembourg contribution to the apéritif culture.

Available since 10 August 2025 online at blindjohn.lu.
