Creative Transformations – Daniel MacLoyd

Daniel MacLloyd is a creative – a self-taught artist, curious and never inclined to create the same thing twice. His work often features marine animals or birds, which he finds symbolic, though his art extends far beyond that.

Passionate about graffiti since primary school, he began by sketching on paper before eventually turning to walls. When one is young and passionate, it seems anything is possible. While studying civil engineering, he decided to leave university and fully dedicate himself to art.

At the age of 23, he won the Street Art Award in the Netherlands in the Benelux artist under 25 category and painted his first mural in Luxembourg in 2016 as part of the Fuelbox301 exhibition. He especially enjoys losing himself in the details of watercolour painting before transferring them to large-scale walls. “I like the feeling of being very small in front of this huge fresco, and of diving into the drawing to reveal its smallest details.”

And indeed, his colourful murals – often depicting an octopus or eagle – have a monumental presence. After meeting fellow artist Raphaël Gindt, the two decided to renovate a house in Esch-sur-Alzette to create both a shared studio and a gallery. After months of work, the Kamellebuttek opened its doors in 2018.

Beyond murals and canvas paintings, Daniel also creates metal sculptures, which he spray-paints himself. He gladly takes on interior design projects for private offices, managing both painting and lighting. He also teaches drawing classes in youth centres. A passionate autodidact with no artistic limits – except that of never standing still. An artist to watch.
