Death of Claude Magnin: the Postkutsch left orphaned

Luxembourg’s restaurant scene has lost one of its leading figures in the South with the passing, last night, of Claude Magnin, the charismatic owner of the Postkutsch restaurant in Esch-sur-Alzette.

Since 1987, when he first ran the Hôtel de la Poste restaurant together with his wife, the native of Franche-Comté devoted himself to delighting a clientele made up of 80 % regular guests.

From 1995 onwards, his “Relais de la Poste” was to be found in Rue Xavier-Brasseur.

Always attentive to his customers, precise and often with a joke at the ready, Claude Magnin could pride himself on offering one of the finest cheese trolleys in the region, featuring around 70 varieties. At his side was always his loyal companion, a white bichon named Anima.

The gastronome succumbed to illness during the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

A statement on social media reads: “The establishment will remain open and will continue to [meet its customers’ expectations], in the spirit [that Claude Magnin passed on to it].”

For those who had not yet discovered the Postkutsch, here is the portrait of the restaurant that KACHEN produced in spring 2023: Postkutsch, a cheese-lover’s paradise
