Alentejo – A Journey Through the Heart of Nature

Let me tell you about all the treasures that the nature of Alentejo has to offer, that idyllic coastal region of Portugal stretching south of Lisbon on the Atlantic.

I remember a feeling of peace that should fill me repeatedly during my stay. I also remember taking the time to accurately draw a stork brooding in its nest on paper.

I remember how the sunset painted the sky before my eyes with all its colours, ranging from shades of yellow and orange to soft pink.

I remember with what delight I looked at the night sky and counted its sparkling stars. I remember all these feelings very clearly and many other sensory impressions.

Where the forest still rules …

If you have seen photos of Alentejo, you have surely noticed the many umbrella pines that provide valuable shade to people and animals on hot summer days. However, this tree species mainly produces pine nuts. These nutty kernels, very popular in Portugal, especially for baking, are exported to almost 90% throughout Europe, particularly to neighbouring Spain and also to France.
